Grade 2 Begins the 1 to 1 iPad Initiative NOW...

Along with the rest of our building. Any advice would be MUCH appreciated. So far, we've managed to use Edmodo for a quiz, Google forms for an exit slip, Show Me for math explanations, Brain Pop's free movie of the day, Paperdesk LT for journaling, and Skitch for labeling thank-you photos that I have yet to send out (learning curve). Classroom Peek 2012-2013

Several things are from Teachers Notebook and ideas from Pinterest. It was my own idea to do the birthday bags and Easter eggs to look like balloons.

Digital Filing Cabinet of Destiny Lorance: Great Teachers are Made by the Teachers Down the Hall

Digital Filing Cabinet of Destiny Lorance: Great Teachers are Made by the Teachers Down the Hall Pin It Now!

Great Teachers are Made by the Teachers Down the Hall

I'm sure we can all relate to the fact that great teachers are made by the teachers down the hall! We've all been the "beginner" at one time or another.

Well recently, one of the teachers "down the hall" shared an idea bout making inferences using commercials. My class was rolling on the floor laughing about watching commercials. We all fun, while focusing on making inferences. We all liked the recent graduate jumping up and down about getting car, when in reality he was just getting a dorm sized refrigerator.

I'm going to look on Pinterest and my Google docs to see, if I can find the original owner of this idea. When I find it, I will post it in the comments. Pin It Now!

Random Anecdotes

I want to protect the innocent so some of these are from years and years ago and others are much more recent. A couple are from colleagues of mine and there are even some from relatives and neighbors. Please add some more to this list, because I can't wait to read about your funny moments in the comment section.

1. I'm going to the reader's response station to make a "diarrhea". Of course, they meant a diorama.

2. "Teacher, you sure are pretty." I replied "Why thank you, that's very sweet of you to say." He then asks "Have you ever been to Tennessee?" I told him "Actually, No I haven't" and with out skipping a beat he looks up at me and says "Well you're the only TEN-I-SEE!"

3. My favorite quote of all time from a 6 year old...."When I was little..."

4. We were studying coins and bills. One student referred to the bills as the "expensive money".

5. We were discussing healthy foods. One student said, "white broccoli is better than green broccoli."

6. We were talking about schools now and schools in the past. The topic of records, CDs and cassettes came up. One of the students said, "that is probably a really big computer to play that CD." (he was pointing at the record)

7. Someone didn't know what "wedding" meant. First we had to get past that it was wedding not wetting. So when our brains finally departed from the water park, we talked about the bride and the groom and how they want to live happily ever after. Of course, the student says, "why would the girl want to marry a broom anyway?"

8. I love it when they slip and call me Mom, but MUST they call me nanna and grandma?

9. I asked one student to take a break in the "Cool Down Spot". He responded with, "I don't have a temperature".

Please add your own anecdotes below, because I can't wait to read them. Pin It Now!

Behavior Management

I know there a thousand possible behavior plans. I hope to implement a new one on Monday. There's a website called Dojo. It will allow me to quickly give positive and if necessarily negative feedback with only the click of a button. Parents and students will instantly see the feedback. I'll keep you posted about how it goes. What are some strategies that have worked for you? Pin It Now!

Make your own crayons from left over piecies.

I made these crayons by removing the paper wrapper from our old crayon bits and breaking the crayons into smaller piecies. I put these in a flexible mold pan and cooked them on the lowest setting until they melted.
